The whole month of June is National Migraine & Headache Awareness Month, also known as MHAM. Before my diagnosis with Vestibular Migraines in 2023, I wasn't involved as I am now with finding resources and information of migraines as well as headaches. I was living my daily life and would have migraines so often. It took the pain and the evolving symptoms that comes with these migraines and vertigo to keep pushing through my daily life and help research more resources to bring more awareness to everyone in our community as well as around the world.
The National Migraine and Headache Awareness Month is an annual campaign observed every June to educate the public about realities of headache diseases and reduce the stigma surrounding them. These initiative aims to have migraine recognized as a serious, legitimate neurobiological disease and to advocate for better funding, research, and treatment options. There are foundations like "The National Headache Foundation" National Headache Foundation, and "The American Migraine Foundation" Migraine Resources & Support | American Migraine Foundation to find resources and other groups to help advocate for migraines and headaches. There are also organizations like "Miles for Migraine" Miles For Migraine - Finding a Cure for Migraine Begins with You and "Shades for Migraines" Shades for Migraine®, A Campaign for Migraine Awareness.
Last year in 2025, I did my first 5k run with Miles for Migraine. This was so special to me in a different way that year as my symptoms were reoccurring almost every day. Not only did I finish the run, but I met some wonderful people in our communities and different organizations to be more involved as well. This is the reason why I wanted to start Footprints Path with Love through Vestibular Migraines, a blog and podcast to share with others the resources, information, and be an advocate for this community. Today, June 19th is National Migraine Solidary Day. Wear purple to show support for the millions affected by migraines. June 21st is Shades for Migraines, a global campaign where people wear your sunglasses to represent photophobia (light sensitivity), which is represented as a symptom with migraines. June 29th is Chronic Migraine Awareness Day. This is where people specifically that experience with 15 or more headache days per month.
As we bring more awareness and campaigns for National Migraine & Headache Awareness Month, let's come together as a community to share with other our stories and resources with one another. This is where our symptoms and stories become not invisible, but that we are visible. Follow your path. Be Brave. See you on the next Footprints Path with Love through Vestibular Migraines.
